This feature is useful for large databases and provides the following benefits:
> A smaller database file size, to avoid reaching the 64GB limitation.
> Faster database backup and restore.
> Better performance by allowing concurrent access to database and views.

For more information, see the following link: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSKTMJ_9.0.1/admin/admn_moving_views_out_of_databases.html?view=kc

Increase the document summary data limit to 16 MB

You can increase the document summary data limit on Notes® 9 databases. Summary data is data in non-rich-text fields, number fields, and date-time fields.

Previously the combined size of all summary data fields in a document was limited to 64 K. This limit is now 16 MB. The size limit for a single field is still 64 K. The size limit for views is still 64K for the combined key and data.
To increase the summary data limit on a database, use the following server command:

    load compact -LargeSummary on database.nsf

Java JRE version 1.8 provided with Domino

The Java run time environment provided with Notes and Domino has been upgraded to Java JRE version 1.8 to provide you with access to the latest features. Domino Designer continues to compile with Java 1.6.

Enable the Group By Date feature in all mail files

Administrators can push the notes.ini setting EnableGroupByDate=1 to Notes clients to enable the Show > Group By Date option in mail files. When enabled, messages in the Inbox, All Documents view, and personal folders on the IBM Notes client are grouped by relative date: Today, Yesterday, Last Week, and so forth.

Users can select Show > Group By Date to turn off the setting.
For more information, see the topic Enabling the Group By Date feature in all mail files.

Enable the Show Beginning of Message feature in all mail files

Administrators can push the notes.ini setting EnableBeginningOfMessage=1 to Notes clients to enable the Show > Beginning of Message option in mail files.

When enabled, Notes client users see the first 100 characters of a message in their Inbox or personal folders along with the subject. Users can select Show > Beginning of Message to turn off the setting.

For more information, see the topic Enabling the Show Beginning of Message feature in all mail files.

Retain MIME formatting when forwarding or replying to internet messages

Administrators can push the notes.ini setting KeepReplyForwardMime=1 to Notes standard clients. This setting retains MIME message formatting when users reply to or forward messages received from the internet. Without this setting, MIME messages are converted to Notes Rich Text which can cause some MIME formatting to be lost.

When this setting is enabled and users respond to or forward messages from the internet, the Notes embedded browser is used to display the original messages with MIME fidelity. Users can't edit the original messages, but they can copy information from them and paste it into their responses.
For more information, see the topic Retaining MIME formatting when forwarding or replying to internet messages.

Notes browser plug-in is no longer part of Notes package

The Notes browser plug-in is no longer provided with the Notes client package. IBM Client Application Access (ICAA), a new lightweight client that provides access to Notes applications, can be used instead. ICAA is available to Notes customers free of charge and can be downloaded from Passport Advantage®. For more information, see the IBM Client Application Access documentation.

ADFS 3.0 now supported as a SAML federated identity provider

Microsoft Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) 3.0 can be used as a Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) federated identity provider (IdP). Since the IBM Traveler server can use unencrypted HTTP connections immediately without any additional setup, some installations may have skipped the HTTPS setup procedures prior to deploying Verse for Android to users. To ensure that all your communications are encrypted, first enable HTTPS either on your IBM Traveler server or on an edge proxy. Then ensure the IBM Verse for Android app begins using the encrypted connection without requiring any manual intervention from your users.

Resolving the problem
This feature requires the following components at the specified minimum version levels:
· IBM Traveler server, version 9.0.1.15 (or later)
· IBM Verse for Android app, version 9.5.0.0 (or later)

If all the IBM Verse for Android apps have not yet upgraded to the required minimum level prior to the completion of these steps, then it is recommended you keep HTTP port 80 enabled until you can ensure all apps have been upgraded. It is not required that all users upgrade at the same time.

1. Enable your IBM Traveler server to use HTTPS. Typically, this will be the Domino server that hosts your Traveler server, but it could also be an edge proxy. If this is a Domino server, Domino 9.0.1 fp5 or later is recommended. See the following for more information on this task:

http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSKTMJ_9.0.1/admin/conf_settingupsslonadominoserver_t.html

Also reference the article Securing connections for IBM Traveler mobile applications for the latest updates on security requirements for IBM Traveler servers and mobile apps.

2. Update the "External Server URL" field on the Traveler server to change the current server URL to start with “https://” instead of "http://". This can be done either through the current configuration document, by updating notes.ini, or by using the domino console. For more information, see:

http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSYRPW_9.0.1/settingtheexternalserverurlforappledevices.htm

3. Before forcing all IBM Verse for Android apps to use the new URL, test the HTTPS connection to ensure that it works properly. The first test is to ensure that the HTTPS port is working properly and routing to the IBM Traveler server. You can use a web browser to easily validate this. Open a browser page, connect to your Traveler Server External URL, and login using an ID. For example, if your Traveler server External URL is https://traveler.example.com/traveler, use a web browser to connect to that page and validate that you do not see any errors.

4. Test the setup with a few devices that are connected to your IBM Traveler server using the HTTP connection. To do this, issue these commands at the domino console:

    tell traveler policy setdevice tsExternalURLEnforced=1 <deviceId> <user>
tell traveler push flagsadd serviceability configGet <deviceId> <user>

Where <deviceId> and <user> are the device ID and user you are testing. You can obtain the <deviceId> of a user that has previously connected to the Traveler server using the command:

tell traveler show <userid>

5. Sync the test devices to ensure that the sync is working properly. From within the Verse for Android app, open Settings > Server and validate that the field called Use Secure Protocol is checked.

NOTE: Ensure that everything syncs normally and shows as secure. If you push an incorrect server URL to the mobile app, the only way to recover is to remove and reinstall the Verse app on the device.

6. After you have verified that the External Server URL is correct and your migrated device can sync, set the IBM Traveler server to enforce this property for all devices by entering the following command into the Domino server console:

    set config NTS_EXTERNAL_URL_ENFORCED=true

This command migrates the rest of your IBM Verse for Android apps (that meet the minimum level) to use your secure server URL.

7. Restart the IBM Traveler server to have the settings take effect.

8. Once all your IBM Verse for Android apps have been updated, you can disable the HTTP port on your Domino server, assuming it is not required for other applications that are using the same server.

IBM Verse on premise is available in the SW catalog

As promised from IBM some weeks ago, IBM Verse on prem is available in the Partnerworld Software Catalog ( <a href="https://www.ibm.com/partnerworld/partnertools/eorderweb/ordersw.do" use a secure connection via an official SSL certificate.

To be honest >> if someone still uses self-signed certificates, it's a shame ;-).

In the coming months, IBM will be enhancing the IBM Verse for iOS, IBM Verse for Android, IBM Notes Traveler Companion and IBM Notes Traveler To Do mobile apps to require that a secure connection is used between the mobile app and the endpoint used for connecting to the IBM Traveler server.

This article provides the security requirements and step by step instructions for ensuring that your on-premises IBM Traveler environment has adequate connection security in place in order to support these updated apps. If your mobile users connect to IBM SmartCloud Notes for Traveler and the Verse Mobile service, these steps do not apply, since this environment is already prepared for these updates. If you have deployed an IBM Traveler server on your own premises, then please continue reading.

IMPORTANT: You must ensure that your IBM Verse Mobile and Traveler connections are secure and compliant with these requirements by January 1, 2017.

These requirements only apply to the server to which the Verse mobile apps are directly connecting. This may be the IBM Traveler server running on a Domino instance, or some other intermediate reverse proxy, such as an F5 or IBM Mobile Connect. When you enter the host name into your Verse mobile application to connect to your Traveler service, this host name represents the server with which the mobile app is directly connecting, and this is the connection that must be secured.

You can read the complete instructions and requirements here:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21989980&myns=swglotus&mynp=OCSSYRPW&mync=E&cm_sp=swglotus-_-OCSSYRPW-_-E

IBM Notes and Domino V9.0.1 extends support and enhances its collaboration toolset with social capabilities from IBM Connections V5.5

As announced in this letter the support for IBM Domino, IBM Notes, Notes Traveler and IBM Enterprise Integrator version 9 has been extended to September 2021.

Included in those packages, also support for

IBM Sametime® V9.0 Limited Use
IBM Domino Designer V9.0.1
IBM Mobile Connect V6.1.5
IBM Domino Global Workbench V9.0.1

are included.

Further there are enhancements regarding the social features with IBM Connections V5.5:

New social features

IBM Notes and Domino V9.0.1 now includes social capabilities from IBM Connections V5.5. In my test. doc # is 10 and db size is 53MB.

3. Keep the database open by Notes client and perform "load compact -replica xxx.nsf".

4.
