47. I'm thinking this may be a bug.
 48.
49.
 50.
51. I am dimensioning wall, doors, windows, etc. across the floor plan as usual. When I leave the view and return to it (regenerate the window) the dimensions are still pinned to the walls, but the dimensions of the doors and windows are gone, and there is an additional dimension to the project origin point. This happens automatically and randomly. As soon as I delete the dimension node to the origin, the node and witness lines to the doors and windows reappear.
 52.
53.
 54.
55. Any thoughts?

 111. Should work the same, make sure the transparant surface used is more than 50% transparant, or it will show as solid.
 112.
113.
 114.
115. Check the Internal Engine settings. Transmittance should be 50 or higher.

 177. You can turn on transparancy (for all transparant surfaces) in the Section Selection Settings under Model Display > Uncut elements > Transparancy.
 178.
179.
 180.
181. Just select the section line or right click it in the project map to get to the settings.

 248.
249. My stairs are 100 cm wide but landing should be 120 cm.
 250.
251.
 252.
253. I tried it in edit mode and in floor plan it seems that I have manualy made it wider but in section there is no landing.

 302. If I am not mistaken, the attached image shows the side profile of the intended Wall, not its section profile.
 303.
304. In such a case you should model the part you want to remove from the top using another element type, such as a Morph, then subtract it from the Wall using a SEO.

 332. You can use the marquee and Stretch, I think in all views. Keep a backup copy of the morph in some depot story because unless one knows exactly what one's doing results can be terrifying. There is some YouTube tutorial for creating a sort of spaghetti ramp based on distorting morphs using the right marquee and elevating some of its edges —
 333. I never got it to work, but the guy in the video did succeed.

 499.
 500.
501. I made a profile as in the picture, but when I used it and drew a beam using this profile, it looked different - arcs are not arcs but straight lines.
 502.
503. What am I doing wrong ?

Seem to remember coming across this before, but can't recall the solution, if any. Any suggestions welcome!

 556.
557.
558. Is there a way to create a reference story level for linking walls and other elements? (without creating an actual plan)
 559.
560.
561. For exemple: I need a wall to link almost to the upper level, but with a specific distance between them. I could just unlink and set a individual height, but I want them to change automatically if I need later.
 562.
563.
564. Second level: 350cm
 565.
566.
567. Wall height : 300cm
 568.
569.
570. First level: 0
 571.
572.
573. Thanks in advance!
 574.
575.
576. ps. I know revit has a function like this, you can create a story without actually creating a plan, it's just for linking and stuff.

 577.
578.
 579.
580.
 581.
582. press ctrl 7 and add new floor, but uncheck the checkbox at the end.
 583.
584. when you uncheck it it wont be counted as actual floor.
 585.
586.
 587.
588. everything you link to it, will preserve the linkage.
 589.
590.
 591.
592. to adjust visibility above/below you might need to use Documents\Floor Cut Plane

I've read that the mesh can be buggy with too many SEO's (foundations, footings & slabs). I've got a lot. I am trying it again. This time I have split the mesh into 4 sections so each one will not be that complex. Anyone have any advice? Similar problem?

 626. There is a special cursor on top of the info box that you can switch from filled to empty symbol. The emtpy cursor allows you to select edges/surfaces individually, so with SHIFT you can select multiple or use boundary selection etc.
 627.
628.
 629.
630. You can also hold CTRL + SHIFT to toggle the cursor, much like how space bar toggles the magnet.
 631.
632.
 633.
634. The (old) tutorial videos for morph tool on ArchiCAD youtube channel still are great for learning tricks with morph tool. The classics remodelled and tie fighter modelling video etc are also good for picking up tricks.

 727.
 728. Hi, I'm trying to arrange two complex profile beam elements without having the materials overlap each other. I would like them to touch without connecting.
 729.
730.
 731.
732. I have created a gutter+fascia profile (steel+timber) and a fascia (timber) profile without gutter. As I mentioned the profiles were assigned as beams and wherever the two elements meet the gutter can be seen overlapping the individual fascia element.
 733.
734.
 735.
736. I have changed the junction order of the individual fascia to have a higher priority, although there has been no change to the connection. It seems the only way I can prevent them from overlapping is to avoid them touching. Which is fine for 1:100 elevations as the small gap can't be seen. However I'm sure there is something simple I'm missing. Is this a case of changing material/intersection priorities? Thanks for any feedback.

 773.
774.
 775.
776. I can select and move edge by edge... but if I want to change the shape of a complex profile for whatever reason, only way i managed to use so far is select/drag edge by edge.

 794. Hi, just a quick question,
 795.
796.
 797.
798. how do you guys think it would be the best way to model this window with stud panels above and below it?
 799.
800.
 801.
802. Basically, what I did so far was placing the window and then adding a curtain wall with a minimum depth in front of it. It worked, buy I'm not sure whether this is the best way to do that, so I'm looking for some other angles,
 803.
804.
 805.
806. Thanks for now!

 834. Hi,
 835.
836.
 837.
838.
 839.
840. I am having problems with my model.
 841.
842.
 843.
844.
 845.
846. In 3D views, when selected, the elements' selection aids, (bounding lines and corner points), don't fit the right places of the actual elements. They even change position and sides on different zoom settings. It is getting impossible work in the file and precision is really suffering. Attached is a picture of a selected slab.
 847.
848.
 849.
850.
 851.
852. The file was created from new, from one of the basic AC20 templates. After created, I inserted a .DWG base map as an independent worksheet, and moved that base map near to the file's origin (it was originally very far). After that, I imported some reference .3DS geometry, inserted them as one object and then transformed them into morphs. Then turned the file into a teamwork file.
 853.
854.
 855.
856.
 857.
858. Thinking the problem might be in the inserted geometry, I tried hiding it and even erasing it, but the file has not recovered precision.
 859.
860.
 861.
862.
 863.
864. Any idea what is going on? Do you know a way to solve this without losing months' work?
 865.
866.

 933. hi all,
 934.
935. can it be that AC cant intersect slab with slab ?
 936.
937. I checked:
 938.
939. - layer intersection group
 940.
941. - material priorities
 942.
943.
 944.
945. I want to subtract the grey from the yellow slab with material priorities.
 946.
964.
965. I tested it out between a 2D plan and the 3D view. I noticed that in 3D the update only occurs when I make that 3D window active. Is this the case?

 966.
967.
 968.
969. Yes you must activate the window for it to update.
 970.
971. If you are using the TAB bar (version 20 onwards) then any changes you make in one view will process in the background for the other open tabs, so when you switch to them the update should be instant (or very quick).
 972.
973. This is so long as you haven't changed the 'Model Rebuild Options' in the work Environment.
 974.
975.
 976.
977. The whole idea of the tab bar is that you can have your views and layouts open and maximised but still be able to switch to them quickly and easily.
 978.
979. So no need to minimise the windows and spread them all across the screen and work in small areas - unless you have a lot of screen real estate.
 980.
1035. The updates are a little slower than live, but they can be automatic and they are pretty fast. Multiple monitors helps to compensate for the jumping around so much to see what you want.

 1056.
1057. You can set the distance to your new level with nothing on it at 0'-0" from one of your other Stories. But be careful about how you use it.
 1058.
1059. I do this with Roof Framing Plan and Roof Plan sometimes. 0'-0" from the Roof Framing Story to the Roof Plan Story.
 1060.
1061.
 1062.
1063. But then I don't use Stories as Floors of the Building all the time. Sometimes I like to use that as just different levels of the model.
 1064.
1065.
 1066.
1067. You can turn off the display of the Story Marker for any Story you don't want to see in a Section.

1103. Yes you could create a reference level other than your second floor but if I am understanding what you want to do I don't think it is necessary. You can just enter the distance that you would like the top of your wall to be from the second floor and it will adjust automatically. ( See attached )

 1131. Hi!
 1132.
1133.
1134. Is there a way to create a reference story level for linking walls and other elements? (without creating an actual plan)
 1135.
1136.
1137. For exemple: I need a wall to link almost to the upper level, but with a specific distance between them. I could just unlink and set a individual height, but I want them to change automatically if I need later.
 1138.
1139.
1140. Second level: 350cm
 1141.
1142.
1143. Wall height : 300cm
 1144.
1145.
1146. First level: 0
 1147.
1148.
1149. Thanks in advance!
 1150.
1151.
1152. ps. I know revit has a function like this, you can create a story without actually creating a plan, it's just for linking and stuff.

1234. That's a good tip. Although it would make it difficult to make sure all the text sizes were the same on the layout (or I'd have to oversize the text in the 1:2.5 so at 1:2 it looked the same)

 1249.
1250. It's not the worst problem, tho
 1251.
1252. In these cases I'd just do a 1:2 view, than scale it on the layout to 80% = 1:2.5.
 1253.
1254. The autotexts are aware of this and will show the true scale.

 1267.
1268. Yes this is a known problem.
 1269.
1270. It will happen for most of those view properties - layer combination, pen set, MVO, GO, reno filter, dimension style.
 1271.
1272.
 1273.
1274. I think the only ones that are safe at the scale and structure display - because you can't re-name those.
 1275.
1276.
 1277.
1278. At least now it says "Missing (name of missing)" or something similar so you may have an idea of what you need to change it to.
 1279.
1280. Some versions ago it used to just be "Missing".
 1281.
1302. Hi Barry
 1303.
1304. Thank you always for your prompt assistance.
 1305.
1306.
 1307.
1308. What I mean is the attached. I have a saved view of the ground floor. The Graphic Override was called 100 FLOOR PLANS. I then went to this Graphic Override and added an "X" to the end. Now, this saved view goes "Missing "100 FLOOR PLANS""

 1320.

1321.
1322. Do you mean the view in the View Map becomes 'Missing' (I have not seen this)?
 1323.
1324. If I change the name of a view point in the Project Map then that will automatically filter through to the view in the View Map and the drawing in the Layouts (after an update) - unless I have given them a custom name in the Project map or Layouts.
 1325.
1326.
 1327.
1328. Or do you mean the properties of the view become 'Missing' - i.e. layer combination, pen set, MVO combination, etc.?
 1329.
1330. If so then yes this does happen and I can tell you Graphisoft are aware of it as it has been brought up in discussions with them.

 1352. Hi
 1353.
1354.
 1355.
1356. I've found that ARCHICAD saved views go "Missing" if the Views get renamed. I would've thought that ARCHICAD would be smart enough to follow the View not by name but by some other unique code that is embedded per view.
 1357.
1358.
 1359.
1360. Is this not the case?

 1410. Hi
 1411.
1412.
 1413.
1414. Is there a way of adjusting the View scale to a decimal place? sometimes my detail drawings require a scale 1:2.5 just to make it work on a page (it is a good scale that is big enough but not too big)
 1415.
1416.
 1417.
1418. But it seems like the scale View cannot do decimals?

1450. I only have 20 open at the moment but I drew a 300x600 mesh and I didn't have the half snap points either.
 1451.
1452. I drew a small slab and no snaps for that either.
 1453.
1454. Until I turned the snap guides off and then back on again.
 1455.
1456. Seems it got stuck somehow.
 1457.
1458.
 1459.
1460. Now when I close and re-open Archicad it works straight away.
 1461.
1462. Just checked 21 and that was fine as well.

 1484. Hi
 1485.
1486.
 1487.
1488. I have a rectangular mesh drawn in 2D; dimensions 300 x 600
 1489.
1490. I want to drawn a line starting from the midpoint of the 300, so at 150
 1491.
1492. However, I can't seem to detect a snap point to this point no matter what combination of snaps I turn on / off
 1493.
1494.
 1495.
1496. Any clues?
 1497.
1516. As Steve has shown it is controlled in the MVO settings.
 1517.
1518. You then need to 'Store As' a combination with the markers on and another with the markers off.
 1519.
1520. Then in your view settings for the electrical plan ensure the MVO combination for no markers is set.
 1521.
1522. The other MVO combination can be used for your other plan views.
 1523.
1566. You can also use (2) Spirals and Solid Elements Operations. Copy one in the same place matching up the center nodes. Then edit the diameter of one and use SEO and turn off the layer of the operator. If needed, you can turn the Target into a morph and split it up or make other modifications.

 1726.
1727. What would be the easiest way to make a spiral chute as on object in ArchiCAD? Something similar to this picture: https://www.transnorm.com/fileadmin/_processed_/4/9/csm_Bild_2_Wendelrutsche1_c98bb751f0.jpg
 1728.
1729.
 1730.
1731. It looks like Revit has a feature called Spiral which appears to be able to do this kind of thing. I just cant seem to think of how to do it in ArchiCAD.
 1732.
1733.
 1734.
1735. There is a spiral 21 object, but that is unfortunately filled in. What I am after is a hollow structure. Imagine a playground slide.
 1736.
1737.
 1738.
1739. Here are a few things I have tried but not quite got what I was after:
 1740.
1741. 1) Using the spiral 21 object, creating a duplicate just a little bit smaller than it, converting them to morphs, then using the boolean properties to subtract the top part - problem - this does not look right
 1742.
1743. 2) using Elbow Tube 21. Make it go 180 degrees. Then convert it to a morph so i can then angle it upwardit. Then mirror this repeatedly. - problem - the angles dont quite match when rotating it
 1744.
1745.
 1746.
1747. Is there a simpler way to do this that I am missing?

 1760.
1761. Is it something that is on a wishlist? I would suspect it would generate quite a lot of positive responses! I often get frustrated having to flick between a 2D drawing and the 3D model to see how one reacts to the other.
 1762.
1763.
 1764.
1765. It would be fantastic if there was an option that they could be viewed simultaneously and updated in real time. Yes - it would probably slow the processes, but if this Workspace was a feature that could be turned off then it would not be too disruptive.
 1766.
1767.
 1768.
1769. It seems that when ARCHICAD can produce both 2D drawings and the 3D model simultaneously it seems lacking that they cannot be viewed simultaneously.
