23. The seo is the worst decision - performance wise.
  24.
25. The cutpoly etc is far better, but direct modeling is the fastest.
  26.
27. I made a test doing this: https://bimobject.com/en-us/komandor/product/komandorunipanels
  28.
29. The perforated panels when doing the perforation with SEO were unusable...cutpoly better, but the holes made in prism definition were the fastest.

  49. You might be able to find some 3D models online that you can convert to morph and then object.
  50.
51.
  52.
53. A series of morphs that you merge into one at the end would probably be the easiest way to model. In so far as modelling a complex shape is easy.

  79. I am trying to create a WC object (or a few of them). I cannot figure out the best way to create it. The main issue is the actual bowl of the WC. Is using SEO's the way to go? Due to the curves of the WC it makes it tricky? What is the best way of creating this object? Complete GDL, model using morphs/slabs/etc? Any guidance is appreciated. It doesn't need to be parametric it just needs to look better than average and have a relatively low polycount. Thanks very much.

  95. Hi!
  96.
97. I've been trying to implement this script into default AC 20 window, but the parameter doesn't show up in Window Selection Settings. The script test turns to be ok and the Width and Height are grayed out like in your case, but the drop-down menu is not visible. Do you know what may be the reason for that and or where can I find this drop-down menu?
  98.
99.
  100.
101. Additionally, is it possible to force showing "All Parameters" in the drop-down menu from attached file?
  102.
103.
  104.
105. Thanks

  147. I don't know if a POLY2 with a 4000 mask is a series of lines or not...but I can't tell either on the screen or in a print out...and I don't have to define any RESOL to achieve this.
  148.
149.
  150.
151. Never mind, with a step angle of 2°
  152. , and the below code, I've achieved the results I want.
  153.
154.
  155.
156.

Code:

FOR i = 0 TO 360 STEP 2
  157.
158. PUT axis1/2*COS(i), axis2/2*SIN(i), 1
  159.
160. NEXT i

  161.
162.
  163.
164.
  165.
166. If I then use a HOTARC2, the user can snap to this ellipse as well, completing the illusion.

  190. I don't think that it is possible to get a smooth curve, because an ellipse is not a spline; I think you must use segmented poly-lines, where the points are positioned near enough to each other, that you cannot see the segmentation.
  191.
192. Isn't a circular POLY made with 4001 Mask-Value a segmented polyline as well?

  205.
  206. Does anyone know how to create an ellipse hole in a POLY2 shape? I can create an ellipse by itself, and I can create a circular hole in a POLY2...but I can't figure out a way to do both smoothly.
  207.
208.
  209.
210. I know how to run a loop command to create a series of lines that emulate an ellipse, but this is a series of lines, not a smooth ellipse.
  211.
212.
  213.
214. I think I know the answer, but you never know...

  349.
  350. I found the answer to this problem that nobody seems to apparently be having besides me.
  351.
352.
  353.
354. The answer is...
  355.
356.
  357.
358. When casings are desired to be different widths (in ArchiCAD 20 that I know of), gang the side of the window you want to mull to another window and check the casing box right beneath the box you checked to gang that side of the window. Then, to get that casing to meet the other windows casing you are mulling it to (which will be ganged on the appropriate side of course), adjust the shim space under "Nominal Sizes and Tolerance". The casing width with adjust according to the shim space number.
  359.
360.
  361.
362. ... and that is how you do custom casing dimensions in ArchiCAD 20.
  363.
364. It took me around a year to finally realize this answer! I am going to enjoy drawing windows so much more!
  365.
366.
  367.
368. This is much better than using the Morph tool to fill in the gaps for every piece of the window.

  412.
  413.
414. Having read your post, leads me to believe the OPPOSITE is also then possible... I could script a QUERY that looks specifically into folders that start with ###...
  415.
416.
  417.
418. So If my folder starts with TREE (or whatever) I could create a variable that lets me type in a few letters and uses those to narrow the folders for the query...
  419.
420.
  421.
422. Also... does this filter require that a folder START WITH or just CONTAIN they filter word?

  443.
  444. Hi All,
  445.
446.
  447.
448. I am Daniel Kovacs from GRAPHISOFT HQ Technical Support. Let me shed some light on what is happening here exactly!
  449.
450.
  451.
452. First, in reply to Laszlo's question: The little arrow next to the Custom Picture field works on both Platforms, but it only appears if there's a picture in the loaded libraries to use. If the list would be empty anyways, the arrow won't even bother to appear.
  453.
454.
  455.
456. Regarding the lists being full of unnecessary picture files, it is a matter of Library Management. If you only have the Default Libraries loaded you will see, that even though the Main ARCHICAD Library is full of textures and other picture files, there's nothing in the list, unless you load a picture into the Embedded Library yourself. That's because we use an Application query to get the names of the loaded pictures, and this query is designed in a way that it will only load pictures that are not in folders starting with the following tags: [TImg]*, [BImg]*, [UImg]*, or [HImg]*. ARCHICAD considers these folders to contain Texture images, Background images, UI images and HDR images (respectively), and leaves them out when browsing for "user loaded images".
  457.
458. If you are a GDL enthusiast, you can find this kind of query at the bottom of this page:
  459.
460.
  461.
462. http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=57314
  463.
464.
  465.
466. So, in R Muller's case, he probably has a lot of pictures/textures in his Loaded or Embedded Library, and these all show up in the list. If you put the pictures in folders named like defined above, they should not appear. Also, as Joachim Suehlo mentioned before me, if you start typing a texture's name, it will highlight in the list.
  467.
468.
  469.
470. Have a good day,

  491.
  492. So I have an id_num parameter which can be changed by the user. It is an 'Abc' type parameter. Basically I want it to list in the schedule in order of the id_num but currently it is just listing by element id rather than id_num. Am I going wrong in the code? I need the "Avoid Action" part of the script. It must be reading id_str for each one rather than the actual number and then resorting to using the element id. Any previous experience with this kind of thing? Are there any ways to work around it? Thanks very much.

  532.

533.
  534. You can use subroutines in the master script as well.
  535.
536. Try the following:
  537.
538.

Code:

  539.
540. ! Code
  541.
542. GOSUB 100
  543.
544. GOSUB 200
  545.
546. GOTO "MasterEnd"
  547.
548. ! Here you can place an END, but you must not
  549.
550. 100; ! 1st Subroutine
  551.
552. RETURN
  553.
554.
  555.
556. 200: ! 2nd subroutine
  557.
558. RETURN
  559.
560.
  561.
562. "MasterEnd":
  563.
564.

  565.
566.
  567.
568. The good thing is, that you can write in 2D and 3D Scripts "Gosub 100"
  569.
570. and the subroutines in the master script are executed.

  622. It looks like the GOSUB command needs an "END" to work, and as you discovered, an "END" in the Master Script prevents the other scripts from running. You might be able to accomplish the same result using IF/THEN statements, which do work in the Master Script.

  655.

656.
  657. I would use placeholder parameters. So put parameter A in a parameter placeholderB, etc. Then change B to be placeholderB.
  658.
659.
  660.
661. I am not sure how the migration script works excactly, but I would say it runs once you load the newer library part and looks for the old part to change parameters as needed. Changing existing parameters around might not work though.
  662.
663.
  664.
665. So yeah, big disclaimer, I've never bothered making replacement parts. Most of our 'custom' library parts are just simple 2D symbols and a large collection of custom parametric door leafs that we generally copy / paste as needed in to project specific libraries so they can be freely edited.

Basically I have 2 versions of the same object, one of which is an upgrade from the previous object. However the issue is that on one object

Code:

A = 0.95

and

Code:

B = 2.2

but on the new object those are the other way around so

Code:

A = 2.2 and B = 0.95

I can't seem to work out how to basically make them switch over using the forward migration script. 749. I don't understand why the 'i' button / More info... doesn't work. This should tell you where it is. It doesn't register things in plan view either, just tried it with saving a random item as object, placing in plan and elevation and deleting it.
  750.
751.
  752.
753. For future reference, this is why I try to name objects something sensible that tells me what it is supposed to be. That generally narrows down the search.

  884.
  885. I would say it is a matter of putting

Code:

if trunktypeX = '2 decidous' then
  886.
887. trunktypeX = '2 deciduous'
  888.
889. endif

in the Forward Migration script.
  890.
891.
  892.
893. Or is this what you have tried?

  919. Schedules will not find objects placed in '2d' views, such as elevations, layouts, details etc
  920.
921.
  922.
923. It can also be a favourite you have saved.
  924.
925.
  926.
927. In stead of schedule, I would use Find & Select and go through the views of project to locate it. Remember to turn on all layers and show all renovation filters.

1133. Okay, so you're going to need to find the "orange dots" (all 6 instances) in the plan and delete them. Do you know what this object is? (Like a window.)
  1134.
1135.
  1136.
1137. As I suggested, you can create a new schedule for this object using the object name criterion, and use fields like "layer", "floor", etc. to help you locate these.

1297. Is there a way to force ARCHICAD to remove a warning? Or is there a way to "purge" unused Embedded objects in the model?

  1298.
1299. If it's in the model, it's not "unused." Is this a 3D object or a 2D object? (2D can be lurking in a section/elevation, or detail)
  1300.
1301.
  1302.
1303. You might try creating a schedule for this object, which could tell you which layer/floor/etc. it is hiding on.

  1327. great question.
  1328.
1329. if you get an answer.......that'll be awesome.
  1330.
1331. I'm surprised that Archicad hasn't yet figured out how to just have a "remove offending object" button or something to that nature that if the object is not there....remove it or an easier way to locate a darn object.
  1332.
1333.
  1334.
1335. I wish the program had a scanning type function like when you can locate windows or doors thru the scheduler and see EXACTLY right where they are in plan.

1381. I'm having problems with the Detail Indicator NCS 21. Has anyone been able to use this effectively? If I rotate it, the text rotates with it. It won't mirror. Also, the arrow head is huge and doesn't seem to be resizable. This has been a problem for many versions of ArchiCAD.

  1399. Hello,
  1400.
1401.
  1402.
1403. I have an issue whilst forward migrating an object. In the old version of the object the is defined variable using the following;

Code:

VALUES 'trunktypeX' '0 none','1 coniferous','2 decidous','3 shrub'

As you can see it says '2 decidous' rather than deciduous...This is corrected in the latest version of the object but I want to be able to add a line of code into my forward migration script to be able to basically change that variable definition to the new definition. I just don't know how to do it and I can't seem to find anything about it online. Changing the old object isn't an option due to it being used by other people and it would definitely cause problems. Thanks in advance for any help.

  1461. Piotr

The issue is that the variables won't be defined if used in the 2D/3D script. It completely works in the Master script, I was just wondering if there was a way to get around the error that it get. Apparently not.

1477. I think you are showing two totally different objects in your image.
  1478.
1479. The parameter list has a 'Title' parameter called "Materials".
  1480.
1481. However in you custom settings there is no such title.
  1482.
1483. So I think you may be trying to edit the wrong object.

1509. How do you change the name of parameters listed under an objects custom settings? Within the GDL string, I set the name to "Frame Material" yet it lists it under the objects custom settings as the default "Surface 1".

1665. Correct, I thought the problem was getting the handle to follow the pre-defined location from the door leaf.
  1666.
1667.
  1668.
1669. If you want a door with recessed handle, you need to make a custom leaf.

  1706.
1707. My work around will be:
  1708.
1709.
  1710.
1711. I will try to make an Door Panel with this kind of handle.
  1712.
1713. It will kill the parametric function of the handle, but i don't see any other solution right now.

1727. Yeah i tried this. Doesnt work.
  1728.
1729.
  1730.
1731. Is it maybe impossible to put some geometry under 0,0,0 ?
  1732.
1733.
  1734.
1735. As Barry said, its a recessed pull handle. And it seems like this is not working probably.
  1736.
1737.
  1738.
1739. I just modeled this kind of handle from hand in AC.
  1740.
1741. I placed the backside of the flange on 0,0,0 and it still appears with the backside of the recessed on the door.
  1742.
1743.
  1744.
1745. Seems like making a recessed handle is not possible.

1877. Thanks for the fast answer.
  1878.
1879.
  1880.
1881. Yeah i tried that. I think i tried every position which seems legit to me but it doesn't work and it didn't change anything.
  1882.
1883.
  1884.
1885. Maybe the collision is causing the problem?
  1886.
1887. I can get what you mean with recess.
  1888.
1889.
  1890.
1891. My last option is to create a door leaf with the handle inside, but i was curious about the Custom Door Handle thing.
  1892.
1893.
  1894.
1895. I don't understand why i can give the handle the "x,y" position but not the "z" in the doors settings.

1935. I always model at the Project Origin but I think you can use an User Origin as well.
  1936.
1937. Make sure you set your handle model so the point you want to have contact with the door is at zero height.
  1938.
1939. i.e. the back of the front flange.
  1940.
1941.
  1942.
1943. As this looks like a recessed pull handle I don't think it will automatically cut a recess in your door panel so you may only see the front flange.

  1965. Hey Com,
  1966.
1967.
  1968.
1969. im trying to make a custom door handle, Can somebody tell me how to get the right position for the insert point?
  1970.
1971.
  1972.
1973. In the screenshots you can see my problem:
  1974.
1975.
  1976.
1977. https://ibb.co/cwKY3k

  1979. https://ibb.co/ek7Lik
  1980.
1981.
  1982.
1983. I made an GH Script for the handle without any Addons:
  1984.
1985.
  1986.
1987. https://ibb.co/gHbD3k
  1988.
1989.
  1990.
1991. For me its important to get the logic behind the insert point placement. maybe somebody can help me cause i tried to understand the 2D-Script and 3D-Script of the Door Handle but i noobish in coding and i cant find the right place in the script for the insert point.

  2049. Now the text2 shows "3" (3 meters) and I prefer "3.00"

2073. There is not any code that I am aware of that can lock the scripts.
  2074.
2075. There is however an old utility (program called 'Hidescripts') that can lock the scripts.
  2076.
2077. Problem is that it can't unlock them.
  2078.
2079. I don't know anyway of accidentally locking the scripts.
  2080.
2081. Let me look at your object and see what I can do.
