A consistent advocate for DLSU sports and scholarships, he supports scholars and athletes through the De La Salle Alumni Association. He also engages in socio-civic organizations such as founding a Rotary Club as its Charter President leading service projects that promote livelihood and education, environmental stewardship, and inclusive development

“I was given a scholarship from De La Salle University, so I pay it forward. Guided by the Academic Support for Instructional Services and Technology (ASIST) Office, hybrid learning is anchored on AnimoSpace, DLSU’s official learning management system. ASIST describes AnimoSpace as the university’s digital learning environment designed to enhance teaching and learning through technology-enabled instruction and collaboration. This positions hybrid learning not only as a mode of delivery but also as an innovation that connects pedagogy with technological advancement.

Laying the Groundwork for Digital Integration

Since adopting Canvas in 2018, DLSU has established a solid foundation for a more organized and reliable digital learning experience. Having one platform made it easier for faculty to manage courses, for students to access materials, and for both to stay connected in one learning space. This early move toward digital integration helped the university simplify processes, ensure consistency across classes, and increase the community’s confidence in online instruction. When the shift to flexible learning became necessary, DLSU was well-prepared; its systems, people, and practices were already equipped to continue teaching and learning, even in the face of uncertainty.

Within this system, DLSU practices two types of hybrid learning: rotational hybrid and concurrent hybrid, also known as HyFlex. In rotational hybrid classes, students alternate between online and onsite participation. In concurrent hybrid or HyFlex classes, students have the option to attend either in person or virtually. This approach allows both synchronous and asynchronous engagement, enabling faculty and students to adapt to diverse learning preferences, schedules, and contexts.

Perspectives from the DLSU Community

Feedback from both students and faculty emphasizes the benefits of hybrid learning. Faculty members highlight that it helps maximize instructional time by combining hands-on, collaborative, and technology-supported strategies. Students value its flexibility, which allows them to balance academics, personal responsibilities, and commuting time. Many also point out that the modality encourages independence, self-discipline, and digital literacy, which are essential skills nowadays in tech-driven environments.

Helping Lasallians Thrive in Hybrid Classrooms

Despite its advantages, hybrid learning presents challenges that require ongoing institutional support. Common concerns include unstable internet connectivity, heavy workloads, and scheduling difficulties. In response, DLSU has enhanced digital access by providing multiple options for attending classes and promoting offline content in AnimoSpace, enabling students to study even without an internet connection.

Students also reported difficulty maintaining focus and motivation during online sessions, while faculty expressed the need for continuous professional development. To address these needs, the ASIST Office continues to provide training programs that enhance digital, technical, and pedagogical competencies, helping educators create engaging and effective hybrid learning environments.

Looking Ahead: A Future of Connection and Possibility

Ultimately, the effectiveness of hybrid learning at DLSU lies in its balance of innovation and accessibility. With strong institutional support, reliable technology, and learner-centered pedagogy, hybrid learning continues to shape a sustainable and transformative model for Lasallian education.

Resources:

De La Salle University.
