The 3 Elements of Change ManagementAbout Change Management
I’ve read books and articles over the years to try and help me improve my management techniques around all aspects of project work, especially Change Management. There are some very good articles on Change Management around from some very experienced Project Managers. There are also some very good industry standard methodologies which will attempt to guide you through the ins and outs of Change Management, amongst other things, and they are also very good.Will any of these articles, books or training courses remove the challenges of Change Management – I don’t think so. Remember this always “Projects are about People” and then you’ll always be sure to blame the right aspect of project management on it’s core failing – it’s always the people that catch you out.Lets briefly look at the three core elements of Change management then, that make this a special sort of headache for all project managers. In doing so lets first distinguish between change brought on by the nature of the project and change within the project. We’re interested here in Change within the Project – which is Project Change Management. More about the reasons we make change and use project management to deliver that change in another article.The 3 Elements of Change Management:1. Causes and Drivers of Change
2. Impact of change and getting agreement
3. Implementing change in the project (or program)Well that wasn’t too painful was it? If only life was this simple. If you take these basic elements and build a simple process around them you’ll get a reasonably workable process flow which identifies basic causes of change, such as;Change Management of Planned Changes – for example;agreed upgrade in a solution as part of a strategic program who’s conclusion was announced after the project started.
value engineering where the project has an opportunity to embrace a new approach to the advantage of the whole project, to reduce costs etc..
unplanned business growth requiring an expansion (or contraction) of the final solution.Change Management of Unsolicited or Unplanned Changes;Client decides part way through delivering a project that they don’t have enough meeting rooms and require a re-design of floor space to accommodate more.
Increase in scope of the conference facilities after they have been built, to include new/additional technologies.
change in senior management who decides he wants the floor plan changed to meet his “new needs”
- my favorite – a complete re-stack (re-shuffle of trading teams) of a trading floor because the wall of screens from one team block the main view out of the building, a week before go-live.Change Management of Emergency Changes;Fixes to critical components as a result of damage caused through some uncontrolled event – accidental flooding or collapse of some critical infrastructure.
Changes to critical components brought on by poor planning and failure to predict accurate requirements. You got caught out! – yes it happens.
Impact of dwindling resources (budget) forcing the need to adjust the solution quality or schedule etc.There are other elements to Change Management – at a higher level it’s the communications before, during and after projects. Within the project it’s about managing expectations and being able to predict or foresee the impact of a required outcome, and “coax” your customer along the right path to retain their support and the momentum in delivery.Change Management is an essential Control component of any project. You will need the following ingredients in place to make change work;1. An agreed and signed-off scope of work clearly defining the deliverables and constraints
2. An agreed (and proven) change process which will take a change input (request) and provide:
Complete description of the changeWhat’s driving the change
Impact on schedule, cost and quality (final deliverables)
Who raised the change request
Who approved it
When it will happen
Who will action it
If change is denied, then a sign-off to that intent.3. A communications forum where Changes are regularly reviewed and all impacted parties are present for comment.4. An appointed Project Board or Steering Committee where there is the authority to approve changes that impact the project beyond the authority of the project manager or project team to decide on.Remember – Change Management is all about people. You need to identify the change and it’s impact and then get the right people to agree to approve or decline the change request based on facts and credible experience (sometimes).This sounds easy but on small projects people can get very protective of their “perceived control” or authority and the project manager may become hamstrung to make basic decisions or to manage the sometimes unreasonable requests for changes from customers staff. On large projects Change Management can and often does become a full time job with a dedicated team doing nothing else but review Change Requests and facilitate the right communications forums and approval meetings.Basic Change Management Process flow
Process ->
Recognize Change request ->
Document it ->
Review it ->
Analyze Impact ->
Present to Change board->If approved, re-plan program to include.If denied, close it and get on with life.Of course, this is just one view of Change Management based on 30 years of delivery experience. Each Project Manager will have there own view but I doubt that any experienced Project Manager will argue with the above but would embellish it with there own invaluable experience to put more “meat on the bone”.

The need for managing tasks efficiently is constantly increasing in the heated continuum of modernization. Use of computer applications that aid in task management has solved the issue to a great extent. Recently, a slew of organizations have introduced several task management tools that can organize, prioritize schedule and reschedule tasks to boost personal and organizational productivity. These tools organize several tasks effectively, ensuring they are completed within stipulated time.Need for advanced task managementThe advent of products in task management has closely followed the IT boom. Information Technology has triggered radical globalization of traditional business processes. Owing to this, projects have become way more complicated than the era before rampant globalization. Traditional management tools do not quite measure up to the challenge. This has given rise to software applications that can manage tasks with greater efficiency in relatively lesser time. These applications can be run either on PC or on the web interface.Efficacy Modern applications in task management ought to score high on efficacy. Towards this end, the makers of these applications employ many different features in them. Each feature is intended to simplify a specific task. Typical applications have variegated elements to deal with resources, timesheets and calendars. Another set of features might take care of other needs like seamless communication, regular reporting and document management.Aid in project managementApplications in task management are great aids in dealing with complex projects. The use of such an application allows project managers to peruse several projects in detail. The application also helps managers to exercise greater control both over the project in its entirety and individual tasks and nuances. Long gone are days when a manager would handle individual projects in separate time frames. The recent technical aid allows managers to concentrate on several projects at the same time, escalating productivity and profit.Team productivityProject management software applications bring respite not just for the project manager. These applications are also a great help to the other members in the team. Use of the application keeps team members updated on all information that relate to the project. With the feature that allows automatic assignment of task, members of the team need not wait for work endlessly.Moreover, this also narrows down the response time for several customers. Proper use of the application can almost eliminate idle time in workplaces. This makes for an end-to-end task management and project development regime.

Compulsory centralized marketing programs are probably one of the supreme strengths of franchising. Pooling funds from all of the franchisees in a system gives them communally much greater marketing power. This fundamental fund can be used to do things that no individual franchisee could afford. The fund can also be used to hire professionals to produce advertising materials of far better superiority than what an individual owner could create. It is essential for anyone considering a franchise investment to know prior to becoming a Franchisee that the Franchisor’s marketing system is a good one. The essential qualities of a good franchise marketing program include these actions.The first priority in any marketing system is knowing that the results will be more people using the products or services of the Franchise.
Second, allow franchisees to offer their opinions. They work in the market in which they operate and know what works and what does not. The final decision can be made by the franchisor, but franchisees will appreciate your allowing them to become involved. Create a franchise advisory group consisting of representatives of all of your franchisees. They should meet with the franchisor’s marketing group and provide input into future projects and campaigns.Marketing funds should be directed primarily toward covering the costs of controlling the marketing effort (internal expenses, agency fees, etc.). Next they cover the expense of producing advertising resources (print, direct mail, radio and television ads, etc.). Finally, they pay for media purchases to place these advertisements for the advantage of the contributing franchisees. A frequent franchisee criticism is that too much is being spent in one of these area and not enough in another. Clearly there must be a practical balance between these needs.Don’t spend more on brand advertising than on efforts to bring in more customers. Building the brand is very important but so is bringing in customers. A powerful brand is only as good as the customers in brings in. The marketing system should be carefully documented. A franchisor most likely won’t provide all of their proprietary internal marketing documentation, but you can ask for at least the table of contents of the marketing support manuals they provide to franchisees. This will give you a good idea of the extent of the strategies they provide in training franchisees to market successfully. It will also validate that they have improved their systems to the point where they have record them in manuals and other support and training tools.
The undisputable way to determine how the marketing program is working is to start asking the existing franchisees. You’ll find that they will be very accommodating on this topic since few things are closer to their hearts than marketing. Be precise and ask them how well the marketing works in terms of bringing customers to their business. Also ask if they think they’re steadily getting good value from their contributions to any required marketing fund. If you find a franchise system where the greater parts of the existing franchisees are unhappy about the way their marketing dollars are being administered, you can presume that others will be unhappy as well. If most of the franchisees are satisfied with the way the marketing fund is handled then you will often find that franchisees are happy about most other factors in their business as well.
Franchise Marketing Ideas for Explosive Growth
To expand your franchise you must use marketing techniques which will help to reach your target audience. Franchise marketing involves two areas. Customers are first and of course Franchisees. Both can benefit from the same marketing ideas and techniques, but the results differ significantly. Unfortunately, many franchise companies miss this little fact and focus their marketing methods too heavily on one cause over the other.Search Engine Marketing (PPC & SEO)
Search engine marketing means bringing increased traffic to your company on search engines through paid search billboards or other ads as well as natural search earned through SEO practices. Distinguishing between how this helps your franchise grow and how consumers will react is an important difference:Consumer: PPC and SEO techniques will help drive eligible traffic to your franchisee’s local page. This eventually helps you generate more leads or sales because your franchisee location or information pages will hopefully be shown to a direct and relevant audience that is most likely to become a long-term client or customer. It saves consumers time because they are instantly taken to the page that means the most to them because of your ads and to SEO efforts.Franchise Development: Each type of marketing will help drive traffic to your website which in turn will help create more leads. This essentially benefits franchise development the same way as with consumers. Your ads and organic search submissions are optimized for this audience and deliver prospects attracted to starting a franchise.Encourage Online Testimonials.
Testimonials are a strong method for showing your success and satisfaction amongst franchisees and customers. Because you manage the reviews you display on your site nevertheless they can make a big difference:
• Consumer: Testimonials provide opinions submitted by satisfied customers and it is important to include them on your site.
• Franchise Development: Testimonials are important to franchise development because they permit prospective franchisees to see how current franchisees’ businesses are functioning as well as their experiences with the corporate office.Franchise Development
The objective is to invite franchises in the locations where you don’t already have a franchise. Social media can help make this a likelihood by showing the opportunities your business offers next to your target market. Those who are seeing your social media crusade are your target market; consequently your products and services as well as those who relate are all in one place. Once you see who is the most active on social media, you can start generating more personalized content and emails to ultimately start up a conversation.Build familiarity in the media.
This is one facet of franchise marketing that has become more imperative in recent years. Building familiarity of your brand in the media is a great way to find that stability for your two goals:
• Consumer: Local newspapers and TV stations want to know what’s happening in the neighborhoods they cover. Connecting with publishers, editors and producers with press releases of anything newsworthy at your business will always be of interest to media professionals. Offer to write a free column that benefits a news outlet’s viewers. Many local media sources will show interest in your business. Always make sure you’re offering pertinent information and have something you can offer back to these media outlets.
• Franchise Development: Build relationships with media outlets and provide them with in-house research performed about the industry you operate in and how the franchise system operates in general. The information you provide should be valuable and interesting that the general public.Infographics
An infographic is an eye-pleasing portrayal of intricate data. Gather your data, and statistics, and create an infographic to transmit your company messages. They can be used in print, on blogs or on social media platforms.Preparing Your Message
Create a budget to make your infographic. When creating an infographic, using various free programs and templates is not a bad idea. The collecting of data and creating charts and graphs can be time consuming. However, the payout could be substantial.Choose your message.
The infographic should provide details about your business while not being overly complicated. Keep away from messages that are sales-focused. Buy our product is not a good communication to present. Stating how a product expands quality of life or helps to improve business is a better choice. Non-profits, universities and individuals can profit from infographics, in addition to companies. Infographics can present a story to potential customers more easily than you can by speaking.Assemble data that sustains your message.
Choose between assembling your own data or finding reliable data from other sources. The following are good places to find statistics if you can’t collect them yourself:• StatPlanet provides worldwide statistics.
• Search government websites such as the US Bureau of Labor Statistics or the EPA to get dependable statistics.
• Trade journals and scientific studies provide study-based data.
• Make sure to list your source(s) for your statistics at the bottom of each graphic section. Use the most trustworthy sources that you can find.
• Use industry reports from Ibisworld.com.Input your data into an Excel spreadsheet. The data that you gather can be entered into an Excel spreadsheet where you can create charts of varying types to use in your infographic.Choosing Infographic Tools
A graphic designer. If you want a fully personalized infographic, you should consider hiring someone who can produce it. Rates vary by designer so make sure your budget is adjusted accordingly. If you want to use your final infographic to improve web traffic or social media content, then you should hire a graphic designer. A graphic designer with experience will be extremely beneficial. Use a large headline. Don’t try to save space by making the font smaller. Use a big font that is easy to read, so that it catches the reader’s eye.Use your logo.
If you want your website found, make sure your logo, website and social media URLs are prominent in your infographic. If you have a general message that you want to go viral, you can skip this step.Use photographs.
If you prefer you can use photos over illustrations. Use between one and six photographs. Make sure to leave plenty of room to separate the images and add text.

“Technology in the long-run is irrelevant”. That is what a customer of mine told me when I made a presentation to him about a new product. I had been talking about the product’s features and benefits and listed “state-of-the-art technology” or something to that effect, as one of them. That is when he made his statement. I realized later that he was correct, at least within the context of how I used “Technology” in my presentation. But I began thinking about whether he could be right in other contexts as well.What is Technology?Merriam-Webster defines it as:1a: the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area: engineering 2 <medical technology>b: a capability given by the practical application of knowledge <a car's fuel-saving technology>2: a manner of accomplishing a task especially using technical processes, methods, or knowledge 3: the specialized aspects of a particular field of endeavor <educational technology>Wikipedia defines it as:Technology (from Greek τÎχνη, techne, “art, skill, cunning of hand”; and -λογία, -logia[1]) is the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems, and methods of organization, in order to solve a problem, improve a preexisting solution to a problem, achieve a goal, handle an applied input/output relation or perform a specific function. It can also refer to the collection of such tools, including machinery, modifications, arrangements and procedures. Technologies significantly affect human as well as other animal species’ ability to control and adapt to their natural environments. The term can either be applied generally or to specific areas: examples include construction technology, medical technology, and information technology.Both definitions revolve around the same thing – application and usage.Technology is an enablerMany people mistakenly believe it is technology which drives innovation. Yet from the definitions above, that is clearly not the case. It is opportunity which defines innovation and technology which enables innovation. Think of the classic “Build a better mousetrap” example taught in most business schools. You might have the technology to build a better mousetrap, but if you have no mice or the old mousetrap works well, there is no opportunity and then the technology to build a better one becomes irrelevant. On the other hand, if you are overrun with mice then the opportunity exists to innovate a product using your technology.Another example, one with which I am intimately familiar, are consumer electronics startup companies. I’ve been associated with both those that succeeded and those that failed. Each possessed unique leading edge technologies. The difference was opportunity. Those that failed could not find the opportunity to develop a meaningful innovation using their technology. In fact to survive, these companies had to morph oftentimes into something totally different and if they were lucky they could take advantage of derivatives of their original technology. More often than not, the original technology wound up in the scrap heap. Technology, thus, is an enabler whose ultimate value proposition is to make improvements to our lives. In order to be relevant, it needs to be used to create innovations that are driven by opportunity.Technology as a competitive advantage?Many companies list a technology as one of their competitive advantages. Is this valid? In some cases yes, but In most cases no.Technology develops along two paths – an evolutionary path and a revolutionary path.A revolutionary technology is one which enables new industries or enables solutions to problems that were previously not possible. Semiconductor technology is a good example. Not only did it spawn new industries and products, but it spawned other revolutionary technologies – transistor technology, integrated circuit technology, microprocessor technology. All which provide many of the products and services we consume today. But is semiconductor technology a competitive advantage? Looking at the number of semiconductor companies that exist today (with new ones forming every day), I’d say not. How about microprocessor technology? Again, no. Lots of microprocessor companies out there. How about quad core microprocessor technology? Not as many companies, but you have Intel, AMD, ARM, and a host of companies building custom quad core processors (Apple, Samsung, Qualcomm, etc). So again, not much of a competitive advantage. Competition from competing technologies and easy access to IP mitigates the perceived competitive advantage of any particular technology. Android vs iOS is a good example of how this works. Both operating systems are derivatives of UNIX. Apple used their technology to introduce iOS and gained an early market advantage. However, Google, utilizing their variant of Unix (a competing technology), caught up relatively quickly. The reasons for this lie not in the underlying technology, but in how the products made possible by those technologies were brought to market (free vs. walled garden, etc.) and the differences in the strategic visions of each company.Evolutionary technology is one which incrementally builds upon the base revolutionary technology. But by it’s very nature, the incremental change is easier for a competitor to match or leapfrog. Take for example wireless cellphone technology. Company V introduced 4G products prior to Company A and while it may have had a short term advantage, as soon as Company A introduced their 4G products, the advantage due to technology disappeared. The consumer went back to choosing Company A or Company V based on price, service, coverage, whatever, but not based on technology. Thus technology might have been relevant in the short term, but in the long term, became irrelevant.In today’s world, technologies tend to quickly become commoditized, and within any particular technology lies the seeds of its own death.Technology’s RelevanceThis article was written from the prospective of an end customer. From a developer/designer standpoint things get murkier. The further one is removed from the technology, the less relevant it becomes. To a developer, the technology can look like a product. An enabling product, but a product nonetheless, and thus it is highly relevant. Bose uses a proprietary signal processing technology to enable products that meet a set of market requirements and thus the technology and what it enables is relevant to them. Their customers are more concerned with how it sounds, what’s the price, what’s the quality, etc., and not so much with how it is achieved, thus the technology used is much less relevant to them.Recently, I was involved in a discussion on Google+ about the new Motorola X phone. A lot of the people on those posts slammed the phone for various reasons – price, locked boot loader, etc. There were also plenty of knocks on the fact that it didn’t have a quad-core processor like the S4 or HTC One which were priced similarly. What they failed to grasp is that whether the manufacturer used 1, 2, 4, or 8 cores in the end makes no difference as long as the phone can deliver a competitive (or even best of class) feature set, functionality, price, and user experience. The iPhone is one of the most successful phones ever produced, and yet it runs on a dual-core processor. It still delivers one of the best user experiences on the market. The features that are enabled by the technology are what are relevant to the consumer, not the technology itself.The relevance of technology therefore, is as an enabler, not as a product feature or a competitive advantage, or any myriad of other things – an enabler. Looking at the Android operating system, it is an impressive piece of software technology, and yet Google gives it away. Why? Because standalone, it does nothing for Google. Giving it away allows other companies to use their expertise to build products and services which then act as enablers for Google’s products and services. To Google, that’s where the real value is.The possession of or access to a technology is only important for what it enables you to do – create innovations which solve problems. That is the real relevance of technology.

Small business accounting software / Small business bookkeeping software — How to buy.There are lot of small business accounting / bookkeeping softwares out there. If you are a small business owner looking for a good software, you are bound to get overwhelmed by the endless list pretty quickly. Which one to buy? What features do they come with? Should I get all the features or just the ones I need? The questions go on and on without answer. If this is what is happening to you, don’t despair. There is hope. Read on. By the time you are done reading this short post you will be armed with all the knowledge you need to make an informed buying decision. First some questions about you.
How big is your business?
Small business as defined by Small Business Administration is any business that is privately owned and employs less than 100 employees. Good enough. If we analyze this definition a bit closely we will quickly see that 100 employees is a big number. Assuming that you are paying $3000/month to each employee you are paying out $300,000/month as salary. If you own a business this big chances are you will not be looking for an accounting / bookkeeping software via internet. Sales agents from software companies will be waiting at your door to sell their software to you. Going by the fact that you are searching for a small business software on the internet you probably own a much smaller business. How much smaller? I think you own a business that has less than 5 employees. Most probably even less. Just one employee. Yourself.

What are you selling?
Are you selling a material product? or just services? Do you make the product or just buy it pre-made? Do you have a real store or you are selling via your web site? How do you find your customers?

How much is your data volume?
If you have a thriving business then you will have good data volume. How much it it? How many orders per month? How many new customers per month? How do store the data? How much data? What is expected growth rate of the data

Do you have a web site?
Nearly all businesses, big or small have web sites these days. Do you have one? If not your should get one. Would you like your software to integrate seamlessly with your web site? Would you like to be able to access your small business accounting / bookkeeping software via the internet?

Your choice of small business accounting / bookkeeping software will depend upon the answers to above questions. Assuming that you have one person company you want something that is easy to use, some that can be accessed remotely form anywhere and it can grow with your company. Right? … Right!OK, one more thing that we did not discuss. Underlying technology. Even though it may not be visible, it is very important to know what kind of technology your small business software is using. After all it is the bed rock on which the software is built. Things may get a little complicated here but I will try to make them as simple as I can.Every small business accounting / bookkeeping software essentially does one thing. It store data. Data is information about your business. Customer names, addresses, products, orders, invoices … all are examples of data. So for a small business software to work efficiently it should be able to store data efficiently. Not only that, it should also be able to modify and retrieve data efficiently when you need it. After all what is the use of a black box software that cannot provide you the data when you need it. You still with me? Good.There are two ways to store data.
Flat file
Relational

Flat file method uses flat text files, much like notepad files, to store data. It is old and archaic.The reason: it cannot hold any relationships among data entities. e.g. you want to store customers name and their invoices. You know that one customer can have many invoices. So to store customers and their invoices you will have to repeat customer name each time you store an invoice. Just like below.customer1 — invoice1customer1 — invoice2Problem with this approach is that you have to repeat the customer name every time you want to store an invoice. This is not efficient.Relational method uses relationships to store data. It is more efficient. Look at the same example that uses relational method. It uses customer name only once.customer1– invoice1– invoice2Elegant isn’t it? You bet. It is much cleaner, more efficient and easier to read. If you are still with me we are almost done. The whole point of the above song and dance was to show you that relational storage method is superior to flat file storage method. It should be an important factor to consider when you buy your small business computer software. Now, there are five major small business accounting / bookkeeping software.Quickbooks from Intuit , Simply Accounting, Peachtree (again from Intuit), Sage and Microsoft Small Business Accounting Software. Agreed?Now the bombshell. None of these small business software use relational storage method! Can you imagine? Wait there is more. All these are propriety software written by the big companies who use large scale ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software that runs on unix (not windows or mac) and uses relational database (relational storage method) to run their own businesses. Did you get what I just said. Let me rephrase. All these so called best small business software companies DO NOT USE THEIR OWN SOFTWARE. They use relational storage software, but they sell you non relational storage software in the name of small business software. The reason? Relation storage method is very expensive. Well not any more!

Planning to start a business? Wait! Are you ready for everything that it asks for? By everything, I literally mean “everything”, be it the money factor, a team of workers, business advertising, business branding, and what not.It’s not only about a business; you need to pre-plan things every time you plan to do something new. Now that it’s about your business, varied factors can influence it apart from the capital, space and a team of personnel. You need expertise in the field you are entering. If you have the same, of course, you won’t face any problem commencing the work, but you might not be able to manage all the things all the time either.Running a business is not child’s play. You will need to heed numerous aspects of your business and focusing on all of them all by yourself may/will mean losing your grasp on your business. I can bet you will never want to lose the charisma of your expertise while you want to remain in a particular domain.Why take a chance? Maintain a healthy balance among all the facets of your company while not letting your expertise lose its magnetism. You must be thinking “how will I manage to do it on my own”. Easy! Raise the business standards – both for your team and your own self.A trademark was all a business needed earlier to become recognizable. But, the same can now be a problem – a big one. It’s very much clear. Do you think about a company’s trademark anymore? I’m sure, not (neither do I). Then, what is that is working for the companies’ betterment and promotion, and making different enterprises renowned brands?Yeah! It’s the market presence. The more you make your company known to people around the world, the more likely it is to be a leading firm, enjoying a great market share.Well, today it is (literally) next to impossible to build a brand sans advertising it, publicizing it, and before the same, building an ethical business approach targeted at achieving complete customer satisfaction.If not with a trademark or logo, how to build the brand? This is certainly a good and rather, a big question that most businessmen are finding an answer to.Brand building is no more only about redesigning the logo of your company, but has come a long way from the same. First understand what your customer wants in terms of quality, value and experience, and then make all possible endeavors to reach out to him. You have every right to let him know that your business can fulfill all his requirements.Each brand, whether big or small, wants customer satisfaction on priority. Of course, if you make a sketch, you will not judge or rate it yourself. After a business is planned with its stratagem designed properly, its end products will only be judged by a customer, who may/may not turn into a paid client, eventually deciding on a brand’s reputation. Customers’ trust means customers’ loyalty, which gradually increases your business’s potential to take the limelight and outshine its rivals in the market.Let’s have a look at some strategies that will help you build your brand in an easy, effective and transparent manner. But, before that, let’s better understand the term branding.What is branding and how to make the first workable step?Branding, in simple words, is an advertisement or promotion of a company. Advertising campaigns and promotional events are vital to spread the word about a business, followed by event sponsorship, which improves the brand equity. Brand equity is a term coined for describing a brand’s value in the marketing industry.Products expire after a certain time period, but brands last longer. Branding is converting innovative ideas into a memorable experience. When branding is done for a business, credibility is gained by that business, which automatically drives more and more number of customers to it.Why not SEO only?What branding does is possible through SEO (Search Engine Optimization) too. But, branding is suggested alongside SEO, because only branding can help enhance a company’s online presence. One chance may be that you just want to bag a few dollars/pounds, and do not have any other aim to start a business. The other may be that you want to earn name and fame and earn your business good reputation in the “popularity game”. In the latter case, SEO alone cannot get you a huge traffic. However, the same might get you high ranking in the search results with a few workable keywords. Here comes the need for branding.Let’s switch to some major brand building strategies now.First of all, you need to spread awareness about your brand to ensure its success in the long run.1. Ensure everything from a Great Logo to Target Audience-When you plan to do branding to take your business to new heights, keep in mind a few things – where do you want your brand to reach, how people should view it and what its main focus is. Make the brand worth being lived by your customers and in order to do so, know your customers well.First of all, make a smart choice of colors for the logo and everything about your brand. Colors should be such that people do not find an excuse to forget it. Besides, the logo plays a vital role in helping any brand make a mark. Thus, hire an expert professional to get your company’s logo designed in a way to leave a lasting impression on your clients.And now when you have finalized a logo for the brand, let it be accompanied by a few words that people keep on reminiscing every now and then. Give it a tagline that defines your brand in pithy.2. Following Ethical Approach with Targeted Audience in Mind-Design an ethical approach to run the business operations. If you serve customers the way they want, they would later reflect on your brand for sure. Thus, decide how you want them to see you and how you will present your brand in an efficient manner in the public. Ethics should be your priority; do you keep it the same?Your team of professionals is who you can eventually owe part of your success to. Get your employees involved in most of the tasks, for they have their own different way of working as per their perception and outlook toward the business values and operations.While they do so, just instruct them on how to keep customers’ requirements in mind so as to meet them in a proficient and satisfactory manner. It is your targeted audience that will turn into paid clientele and therefore, you need to carefully judge who will be those people looking for your products the most.3. Creating and maintaining a Big Social Circle-Besides working for your customers, you must also work to reach out to them to know them better and maintain long-term relationships with them. Interacting with people will make you learn new things to do better for your business. Some customers will provide you testimonials to keep as a token of appreciation, which will do a lot in promoting your brand to new customers.This is an era of social media/networking. Be it an individual, an enterprise, or an NGO. Everyone would socialize to promote themselves, their products, their services, their work, or anything that could take them to a whole new level.When it comes to building relationships, number does not count. Reach out to as many people as possible, since each and every person will in some way or the other benefit you and your brand. While some will come up with a positive feedback that will act as a motivation for you to do better in future, some will turn to give negative comments, which will again encourage you to improve things and move on to turn these people into your brand’s admirers.It is not only enough to meet people, but remember their names and a few details. The more you show them their value to you, the more they will be returning to you. However, this still does not mean that you are allowed to use flattery.4. Paying Attention To The Visuals – A logo will be something that will reflect on your brand. Keep the same vibrant and engaging, or else, you have the choice of hiring a professional to do the same for you. Think of a big brand like Apple or Mercedes, the logo of the same will strike your mind in a fraction of seconds. These brands have not done anything exceptional, but just created an easy-to-remember, attractive logo and applied effective marketing strategies to promote their brand while ensuring superior quality. This is what you need to do with your brand.Remember to add your company’s logo to each of your products, whether it is a product’s body or its packaging. The message/tagline you have designed for your brand should also accompany the same.Get copyrights for the same, because this is what will make customers recognize your brand and make an impression.5. Organizing Promotional Campaigns or Events-Never forget to organize such campaigns or events, online or offline, which could help people or customers know you better. Among the online methods may come video sharing, or a link to a product launch. You can use YouTube to share a video that is informative and helpful for your customers. Also, you can use Facebook or Twitter to promote your brand in another beautiful and easy way of posting or tweeting anything new about your brand from time to time.You can also advertise your brand on different websites, which would initially require you to spend a few bucks or dollars. But, ultimately it would return you more money depending on the number of clicks and traffic to your website.The Way of Events-Choose this way to gather a huge crowd and promote a new product or service of your company. A corporate event is the most common promotional method used today that helps to a high extent in driving a huge traffic to you and winning their trust too. And if you have that trust of your customers with you, you are at no risk of dwindling or dying out in the long run.Stick to Your SayIf you have succeeded in becoming a renowned brand, or are making all possible efforts to be one, make it a point not to go off the track at any point of time under any circumstance. It is important to maintain the integrity and dignity in any business. You should do and deliver what you promise or commit to your esteemed customers. They are valuable to you since the very beginning of your business; they are your lead generators.
