currently no way

ok. It could be pretty large usability improvement. Not all programs have this but those who have have potential for much better usability.

Pretty good metrics is if you start measuring distance the mouse pointer travels in screen to accomplish task A, task, B, task C, etc...

Every time you have to do anything in File, Edit, View, Metadata, etc... menus the pointer travels considerable distance upwards and then back downwards.

Having fully customizable context menus would enable user to move everything he needs from these menus to the context menus and virtually eliminate need for the whole menu bar (and also toolbar). In that case he could even hide the menu bar (I read from somewhere that officially it cannot be hidden but somewhere in xnview.ni would be a setting to hide it?)
Statistics: Posted by golemus — Mon Jun 30, 2025 3:26 pm

As a secondary line of defence, we use the Windows Ressource Manager to monitor file creation on our network shares. Every extension that is not whitelisted blocks further network access.

Just recently we observed a false positive when a user saved a screenshot. Turned out that the user replaced the proposed file name with something like "test", but without a file extension. As the file type was set to PNG, the file should have been created as "test.png".

Seems like XnView first creates the file as "test" (triggering the filter), and only afterwards renames the file to "test.png".
Can this be changed or is there a specific reason for this behaviour?

Lars
Statistics: Posted by larsen — Mon Jun 30, 2025 12:28 pm

I ran a batch convert where I resized 75% then applied a Levels change (different levels for red and blue; my camera colour setting had got bumped so my pictures had come out rather blue)
Saving as jpeg-li, the settings said to rebuild the thumbnail.
The resulting files when opened were right (their levels were changed), but the thumbnails did not reflect the levels change and were still blue.
