25.

At work we debated whether or not we should pay Elon Musk for the verification badge. Strong arguments both ways. We decided to do it for a while to see what would happen.

So far, the ad revenue sharing is more than paying for the cost. At this rate, we will easily get paid more from Twitter than we’re paying into it over the year.

So he’s paying us to have the verified badge. No idea how this lasts, but we’re satisfied ethically that we’re extracting some wealth from that shit hole.

 31.

Day 15 of the dog's recovery from vestibular disease.

Every day it feels like we see improvement. For those out there dealing with this, it really does take time for them to bounce back. His head tilt is still there and pronounced, but his balance is improving.

He regularly gets up on his own and walks around. He's eating and drinking standing up. We're making progress.

 37.

Day 12 of the vestibular disease recovery for my dog, Bloom.

He is starting to get up more on his own. Still super stumbly and sort of drunk looking. He falls over very easily. But he’s making an effort, especially in the morning. And he’s standing to eat and drink on his own. So this seems pretty “on schedule” for the typical recovery.

It’s not easy giving up this amount of time every day to your dog. If I didn’t work from home, I’m not sure how I would do this.

 57.

Day 9 of the dog’s vestibular disease recovery.

Today I decided I’m going to start getting him up more, even if he’s just standing. I brought a rug down to the living room so he’ll have more traction. I managed to get him outside again twice so far to use the bathroom. Tonight I’m going to try to have him stand and eat dinner.

But it’s also setting in that this is going to be a much longer recovery. People online are talking about 20+ days. So I’m trying to better manage my expectations.

 67.

Day 8 of vestibular disease recovery with the dog, Bloom.

I managed to get the Help Em Up harness fit enough that I wasn’t choking him when I lifted. He kept knuckling on his back left leg and just couldn’t get his front legs under him. He kept swinging around to get back to the bed, so that’s where he’s been again today. He hasn’t soiled the bed yet today either, so that’s coming later this evening.

I’m really wanting him to try to get up even if he can’t, and I need to be more patient.

 73.

I really like Mastodon, and I like the vision of the federated internet. But after years of working to avoid being exploited by the big social media companies, I find that I’m unable to really engage here. Like, I just don’t have the spark to write anything.

 85.

My dog has vestibular disease, which is apparently very common in older dogs. It appears to just come on suddenly and Monday morning he just couldn’t stand up.

He’s had improvement since then and we’re hoping he’s going to start supporting his weight even if just standing still in the coming days.

But in the meantime he’s got a UTI. Poor guy.

 125.

Twitter has become essentially unusable as an online space for discourse, at least around some specific issues.

There’s no point in trying to engage in discourse around Palestine there any longer. The platform is completely overrun by either bot accounts or accounts operated in bad faith.

We’re still publishing to that platform, and ironically may increase the amount we’re pushing there, but we are going to stop engaging directly with other users. There is just no ROI in it.
