65.

Twas the night before Christmas

 66.
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
67. Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
68. The stockings were hung on the doorknobs with care,
69. But something was missing, my dad wasn’t there.

 70.
Out in the night parked under a star,
71. My Dad was there watching in his traffic car.
72. Now out in the snow, where nothing had stirred,
73. the radio crackled, the big engine purred.

 74.
Dad adjusted his cap and straightened his tie,
75. Got out of his vehicle and looked round the sky.
76. He turned up his collar and looked all around,
77. And listened so hard for that wonderful sound.

 78.
And sure enough soon through the cold winter night,
79. My Dad on patrol saw the wonderful sight.
80. There up in the distance so vivid and clear,
81. A light getting brighter it soon would be near.

 82.
He called on the radio “Tango-one-oh,
83. “I think I have contact out there in the snow.
84. “I’ve got him on mapping, it’s him there’s no doubt,
85. “I’m off the to R.V. point, Tango-ten, out!”

 86.
Dad jumped in the police car & looked to the sky,
87. Just getting closer but ever so high,
88. Bathed in the glow of a deep yellow light,
89. He finally saw the wonderful sight.

 90.
First Dasher then Dancer then Prancer and Vixen,
91. And Comet and Cupid then Donner and Blitzen.
92. Then out in the front of the beautiful sleigh,
93. Was Rudolph the Reindeer leading the way.

 94.
Santa looked down at the police car below,
95. Grateful once more for a guide through the snow.
96. “This is Santa, come in Tango-ten,
97. “It really is good to see you again.”

 98.
“Roger that, Santa, your message is clear,
99. “This really is the best assignment all year.”
100. The police car revved hard as Santa flew by,
101. Then magically lifted up into the sky.

 102.
Over the County they flashed blue & red,
103. Santa behind and my Daddy ahead.
104. Landing on rooftops and climbing inside,
105. Then off to the next, my Daddy the Guide.

 106.
They finally finished their job in the sky,
107. Daddy saluted as Santa flew by.
108. “Same time again, Santa, next year once again?”
109. “You bet, and my thanks go to you Tango-ten.

 110.
Into the distance Dad saw Santa fly,
111. He took off his cap and loosened his tie.
112. And feeling quite pleased with himself, as he should,
113. He knew he did well, he did fine, he did good.

 114.
When I open my presents although I am sad,
115. I know Santa leaves me a kiss from my Dad.
116. And although I miss him I know in my soul
117. Though Dad’s up in heaven, he’s still on patrol.

 162.

I thought I’d share this which is doing the rounds of Facebook….

 163.
Dear Mr Cameron,

 164.
Yesterday I was called out to an incident where an 80 year old man had fallen out of his bath seat and landed in the bath upside down. He was trapped and screaming for help with his legs trapped in the bath seat.

 165.
His neighbours heard him screaming and called 999. The doors and windows were locked and he was screaming in agony. I arrived, broke the door down and went into the bathroom to find a very scared elderly male laying naked, freezing cold trapped in his bath by a disability aid that was supposed to help him. He took one look at me and began to cry with relief.

 166.
We are so short of officers and resources on every shift that we are stretched to breaking point and already we are forced into saying no to some jobs that used to be graded prompt… such as this. At some point very soon we will be dealing with CRIME ONLY because 1) we are being told to keep the figures up and 2) we haven’t got the resources to deal with anything more.

 167.
There are serious arguments going on over the radio between control room staff and officers on the ground regularly because they have statistics to meet, and we aren’t dealing with incidents we attend quickly enough. We are all stressed and biting at each other, when we used to work as a team. Stress = mistakes and mistakes in this job costs lives.

 168.
What’s going to happen to the old man in future? Whilst dealing with this man, wrapping him in a dressing gown, my radio goes off again. A 16 year old girl – suicide attempt- stood on a bridge on the M25.

 169.
No other units available. None! I’m not trained to talk down a suicidal teen! But there is no one. All tucked up far away on other jobs. It’s a good job I don’t need immediate assistance with a male trying to break the bedroom door down and knife his wife, like the previous evening, when I was once again single crewed.

 170.
What do you want me to do? Stay with the man who’s still shaking in shock? Go to the girl who’s just about to jump onto a busy motorway or do we not attend these jobs and just deal with crime? Like the man trying to kill his wife …… On my own with no back up!

 171.
I’ve just got home and I’m sitting here wondering if I can handle this anymore; is it worth me getting hurt? I have 2 young disabled children. What would happen to them? I’m a single mum, with childcare fees and with the cost of living so high I’d be better off on benefits.

 172.
Being a police officer is firstly about saving life and limb and not statistics, not saving money and certainly not votes. We are stretched to the point that it is now dangerous. Your cuts are putting my life at risk and that of the public. You have just destroyed my pension and frozen my wages.

 173.
All these things are going through my mind all the time, morale at work is at rock bottom. All police officers are feeling like this at the moment but we are all holding on in hope you will realise what a mistake you have made.

 174.
Surely you will see sense before it’s too late? This isn’t just whinging because we don’t like cuts…. this is a genuinely dangerous situation. Would you like me to wear a body camera for a week? Will you watch what’s really happening on the frontline and what police officers face on a daily basis?

 175.
Mr Cameron, you tell me why I should stay in my job?

 191.
Three Baldwin County (Alabama) Deputy Sheriffs attended an address last Friday. They approached 53-year-old Michael Jansen on his porch outside his house, to ascertain why the ‘family disturbance’ call had been made. As they did so, Jansen pulled out a gun and shot two of the officers, fatally wounding Deputy Scott Ward an critically injuring one of his colleagues.

 192.
The officers returned fire and killed Jansen. All officers were wearing bullet-proof vests.

 193.
The slain officer had 15 years’ service and was a US Coastguard Reserve having recently returned from deployment in Afghanistan.

 226.

The Police and Crime Commissioners election, what a farce.

 227.
How many of you exercised your democratic rights to vote? not many I’m guessing. I did, I went to the polling station. there were 6 staff there. I was the only one in there. I didn’t see anyone on the way in or the way out. The staff looked bored.

 228.
I spoiled my paper by leaving a choice message to the candidates on it.

 229.
It was an election that nobody called for, nobody was interested in, and practically nobody bothered about. I saw on the BBC News that it cost something like £100million. I have no idea of that’s true or not. I’m bloody sure, had they had the election in May with all the others, they’d have got a far higher turnout, and would have saved the country a packet. I’ve not heard why it was so important to have this election in the middle of November, unless it was to do with engineering a favourable list of suitably biased Commissioners for the government…

 230.
I do know someone who manned a polling station from 6.30am until 10.30pm, had 100 people voting out of an electoral roll of 2,000, and was paid £170.

 231.
I received one leaflet through the door, I think it was from the Conservative candidate. I have not the first clue what the others were proposing. I did note that when interviewed 75% of the candidates couldn’t even recall the name of the chief constable and none knew how many police officers are in our force. And one of them is now responsible for running the police service.

 248.
Allan Staunton, aged 23, of Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire has just been jailed for animal cruelty after he posted a video online of him putting his ex-girlfriend’s cat in a tumble drier and turning it on three times. The cat survived the ordeal though it was injured. He later told RSPCA inspectors that he thought the incident was funny, after YouTube visitors reported the video to them.

 249.
Staunton received 56 days at Her Majesty’s pleasure and was banned from keeping animals for life.

 266. O’Kill was arrested for a burglary by the Old Bill in Wales. On his possession was found a mobile phone. On his mobile phone were pictures of the hapless waste of spaces ping with a shotgun stolen in a separate burglary one time earlier.
267. The pair received four years’ jail at Swansea Crown Court this week.
